School of Rock, The Musical

Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. The children in his class often feel unseen, unheard, and unimportant to the adults in their lives. While there, Dewey turns a class of straight-A, high-achieving students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls in love with the head mistress of the school, and the students find the courage they need to speak to their parents about their own hopes and dreams.

CASTING

The casting age for School of Rock is 10+. All named school children must not be over the age of 14.

CASTING NOTE

The student roles of Zack, Lawrence, Katie and Freddy, and the adult role of Dewey require the playing of an instrument. The instrument is noted next to the character’s name listed below. We invite you to bring your instrument with you to play during your audition, or submit a video of yourself playing.

An original. High rock tenor; great comedic/improv skills a plus, basic guitar a MUST.

Tween. Zack is angry that his dad doesn’t listen to him and has a passion for music ready to burst out from inside of him. He knows he has more in him than he has ever been able to show. Pop/Rock Singer who moves well. Needs to seriously ‘shred’ on guitar, with exceptional solo skills.

Tween. New to the school, Tomika struggles to make friends despite her two Dads pushing her forwards. Tomika barely speaks until she finally summons the courage to open her mouth and sing out, so we have to be blown away by her sound. This character is typically African American; however, candidates of all ethnicity may apply. Pop/Rock/Gospel singer who moves well. KILLER VOICE.
