The Radiography curriculum prepares the graduate to be a radiographer, a skilled health care professional who uses radiation to produce images of the human body.

Course work includes clinical rotations to area health care facilities, radiographic exposure, image processing, radiographic procedures, physics, pathology, patient care and management, radiation protection, quality assurance, anatomy and physiology, and radiobiology.

Graduates of accredited programs are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists national examination for certification and registration as medical radiographers. Graduates may be employed in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, medical laboratories, government agencies, and industry.

MISSION
The mission of the Lenoir Community College Radiography Program is to provide students with a comprehensive education in radiography, and prepare them to enter the radiographic profession as a competent entry-level radiographer.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES

  1. The student will complete the program within 150% of the stated program length.
  2. The graduate will indicate satisfaction with preparation for employment.
  3. The employer will indicate satisfaction with the graduate.
  4. The graduate will pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies (ARRT) credentialing examination.
  5. The radiography program will meet the needs of the community by providing qualified radiographers employed in medical imaging within twelve months post graduation.

GOALS & STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Goal 1: To ensure students are proficient in performing radiographic procedures, radiation protection and applying patient care techniques in clinical settings.
Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will demonstrate proper positioning and technique to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
  2. Students will exhibit ethical judgment, professionalism and proficiency in patient assessment and care.

Goal 2: To equip students with the ability to effectively communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and peers in various clinical environments.
Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will communicate clearly and compassionately with patients regarding procedures and care.
  2. Students will present clinical findings and case studies in both oral and written formats using appropriate medical terminology.

Goal 3: To develop students’ abilities to analyze situations, solve problems, and make decisions in the clinical environment.

  1. Students will adjust standard procedures to accommodate patient conditions and imaging challenges.
  2. Students will evaluate images for diagnostic quality and suggest corrective actions when necessary.

Program effectiveness data includes the program completion rate, credentialing examination pass rate and job placement rate. Explanations of these measures and program data that correspond with the annual report most recently submitted to the JRCERT are noted below. This information can also be obtained through the JRCERT Web Program Effectiveness Report. Questions about program effectiveness data should be directed to the Program Chair. The Radiography Associate Degree in Applied Science is approved by the North Carolina Community College System and is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The Radiography Program was awarded the maximum length of an 8–year accreditation by the JRCERT. Credentialing Examination Pass Rate – for radiography, radiation therapy, and magnetic resonance credentialing examination pass rate is defined as the number of student graduates who pass, on the first attempt, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination or an unrestricted state licensing examination, compared with the number of graduates who take the examination within six months of graduation.
Exclusions:

  • Radiography, radiation therapy, and magnetic resonance program graduates taking the examination greater than six months post-graduation must be excluded from the total number of graduates taking the examination as well as from the pass/fail rate calculation provided on the report.

Annual Program Completion Rate (PCR) – is defined as the number of students who complete the program within the stated program length compared with the number of students who initially started with the cohort.

  • Programs are free to determine the entry point (e.g., required orientation date, final drop/add date, final date to drop with 100% tuition refund, official class roster date, etc.) used to calculate the number of students that began the program.

When calculating the total number of students enrolled in the program (denominator) programs need not consider students who attrite due to nonacademic reasons such as:
