Crime Awareness
If a violation occurs at night or on the weekend, the observer should immediately report the individual and the circumstances to the nearest faculty member. The faculty member should notify the Evening Program Coordinator or Campus Security.
When telephoning for assistance, certain vital information must be provided. The caller should try to remain calm and provide the following information:
- Name
- Location
- Nature of the incident
- Location of the incident
- Type of assistance needed
In a medical emergency, do no more than qualifications and experiences allow. Give aid, but do not cause harm. In the event of fire, call for help and activate alarm.
Should a criminal act precipitate the call, please give as much information as possible. All reports of criminal acts may be forwarded to the local law enforcement agency for further action. Upon notification of criminal activity, Administration will assign a security officer or other staff member to process and document the complaint/report; involve (as necessary) the appropriate law enforcement agency, and conduct necessary follow-up according to college procedure.
A student who is alleged to have violated one or more of the standards of conduct may admit the violation and accept disciplinary action as prescribed by the Dean of Student Services or may request a hearing before the Student Services Committee. The committee will conduct closed proceedings that guarantee procedural fairness.
When a notice of appeal by a student is received by the Dean of Student Services, a written copy of the allegations will be provided to the student. The committee may recommend that the student be exonerated or disciplined. If discipline is recommended, the committee may advocate an official written reprimand, probation, or one of the following penalties:
- Suspension from the College for a specified time, not to exceed two semesters, or until a condition is met.
- Dismissal from the College for an unspecified period of time.
- Permanent expulsion from the College.
The Student Services committee will present its findings and recommendations to the President of the College within five working days of conclusion of the hearing. The President, after a full and complete review, will notify the student of the results of the hearing. The President’s decision will be final.
When cases arise requiring disciplinary action, the Dean of Student Services will inform the appropriate dean and the Vice President of Academic and Student Services of action taken. In all cases, the rights of the students and the College should be protected.
