Program Intro

The Information Technology (IT)–A25590B curriculum prepares graduates for employment in the technology sector as designers, testers, support technicians, system administrators, developers, or programmers who use computer software and/or hardware to design, process, implement and manage information systems in specialties such as database services, security, business intelligence, healthcare informatics and others depending on the technical path selected within this curriculum.

Course work includes the development of student’s ability to create, store, communicate, exchange, and use the information to solve technical issues related to information support and services, interactive media, network systems, programming and software development, information security, and other emerging technologies based on the selected area of study.

  • CTS 115 – Info Sys Business Concepts
    The course introduces the role of IT in managing business processes and the need for business processes and IT alignment.
  • NET 125 – Introduction to Networks
    This course introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components, and models of the Internet and computer networks.

SAMPLE COURSES

  • CTI 120 – Network & Sec Foundation
    This course introduces students to the Network concepts, including networking terminology and protocols, local and wide area networks, and network standards.
  • NOS 120 – Linus/UNIC Single User
    This course develops the necessary skills for students to develop both GUI and command-line skills for using and customizing a Linux workstation.

  • COM 231 – Public Speaking
    This course provides instruction and experience in the preparation and delivery of speeches within a public setting and group discussion.
  • NOS 130 – Windows Single User
    This course introduces operating system concepts for single-user systems.

  • NET 113 – Home Automation Systems
    This course covers the design, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and customer service of a fully automated home.
  • NET 225 – Routing & Switching I
    This course focuses on advanced IP addressing techniques, intermediate routing protocols, command-line interface configuration of switches, Ethernet switching, VLANs, STP, and VTP.

  • CSC 121 – Python Programming
    This course introduces computer programming using the Python programming language.
  • NET 241 – Introduction to VOIP
    This course introduces students to the terms and definitions of analog phone systems and voice over internet protocol (VOIP) networks and how to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot said networks.

What is financial aid? Financial aid is money that is given or borrowed to help pay for college. It can come from federal, state, local, school and private entities. North Carolina and the federal government award millions of dollars each year to help students pay for college. Don’t forget Scholarships! Scholarships are gifts. They don’t need to be repaid.
