Program Intro
The Human Services Technology–A45380 curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in institutions and agencies which provide social, community, and educational services. Along with core courses, students take courses that prepare them for specialization in specific human service areas.
Students will take courses from a variety of disciplines. The emphasis in core courses is placed on the development of relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes in human services. Fieldwork experience will provide opportunities for the application of knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.
Graduates should qualify for positions in mental health, child care, family services, social services, rehabilitation, correction, and educational agencies. Graduates choosing to continue their education may select from a variety of transfer programs at senior public and private institutions.

This course introduces the scientific study of human society, culture, and social interactions.

This course covers the purpose, structure, focus, and techniques employed in effective interviewing. - HSE 125 – Counseling
This course covers the major approaches to psychotherapy and counseling, including theory, characteristics, and techniques.

This course provides instruction and experience in the preparation and delivery of speeches within a public setting and group discussion. - SOC 220 – Social Problems
This course provides an in-depth study of current social problems.

This course provides an overview of the behavior patterns, life changes, and social issues that accompany the developmental stage of adolescence. - WBL 111 – Work-Based Learning
This course provides a work-based learning experience with a college-approved employer in an area related to the student’s program of study.

This course provides theory and skill acquisition by utilizing intervention strategies designed to obtain therapeutic information, support recovery, and prevent relapse.
Paying for College
What is financial aid? Financial aid is money that is given or borrowed to help pay for college. It can come from federal, state, local, school and private entities. North Carolina and the federal government award millions of dollars each year to help students pay for college. Don’t forget Scholarships! Scholarships are gifts. They don’t need to be repaid. There are thousands of them, offered by schools, employers, individuals, private companies, nonprofits, communities, religious groups, and professional and social organizations.
