QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required. Experience of at least one year in teaching ESL is preferred, but not required. The ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferred, but not required. The ability to work with people from all walks of life is a must. Successful applicants will possess a good attitude as well as the ability to work independently and cooperatively with colleagues. Applicants should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have a willingness to adapt to program changes and to learn instructional methods and materials. Day and/or night duties may be assigned.
POSITION DUTIES: This position will provide assessment, classroom instruction, and individualized instruction in basic skills areas with emphasis on oral and written communication skills to students from all cultural backgrounds.
The instructor will evaluate the educational progress of students and be responsible for completing paperwork required by the college. The instructor may provide computerized instruction and will coordinate and administer placement testing as needed.
Instructors are required to attend several hours of training per year and will be expected to be prepared to teach multi-levels of instruction.
Instructors are a vital part of the Basic Skills program and must be able to work as a team member to achieve departmental and college objectives. The Dean of Continuing Education and the Coordinator of the English as a Second Language program may assign other duties as needed.
