| Health Science Lecture Series |
Dr. Edwin Little, partner with Kinston Medical Associates and primary physician at the Pink Hill Medical Center, recently presented the annual Lenoir Community College Health Sciences Lecture as part of the college's 50th anniversary celebration. His subject was Diabetes Mellitus.
He discussed the disease, the diagnostic tests, signs and symptoms, and the treatment options available today. Little emphasized that diabetes should not control the person, but the person control the disease.
"Important to patient control is diet and exercise," he said. He reviewed the newest medications available for those who need oral medications, and discussed the significance of the insulin pump to the maintenance of blood sugar levels. |
Education of diabetes is the key to understanding how to control the disease and he complimented Lenoir Memorial Hospital Diabetes Education Center for its program and encouraged those in attendance to learn all they can as a diabetic or as a loved one helping in the care of a diabetic.
Little reviewed complications of diabetes such as Neuropathy, Retinopathy, Nephropathy, CAD, Hypertension. An expert in diabetes, he has intimately lived with the disease for the past 35 years. A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College with a bachelor of arts degree in Biology, Dr. Little completed his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Pennsylvania. After residency of Family Practice at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, he moved his family to North Carolina, where he has been practicing for 25 years. |
