Latino artist and craftsman, Cornelio Campos and Cesar E. Luengas Solano, respectively, will exhibit their artwork at the Greene County Museum beginning May 6. Campos lives in Durham where his paintings have been shown extensively. He describes his paintings as falling into two categories: one which is considred folkloric and the other which could be considered political. His folkloric paintings are inspired by his hometown of Cheran, Mexico.
Cesar E. Luengas Solano is a wood carver who resided in Greensboro for five years but since 2004 has lived in Wilmington. He received a degree in psychology in 1993 but has always had a passion for the arts. When he moved to the coast, he began molding figures in the sand and slowly returned to the art of wood carving. Luengas Solano was born in Mexico City, Mexico and grew up in the city Veracruz.
A "Meet the Artists" Reception will be held at the Greene County Museum, 107 NW 3rd Street, Snow Hill, NC, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18. This reception will be provided by La Flama Mexican Restaurant located in downtown Snow Hill. The public is invited and there is no entrance fee.
The "North Carolina Latino Artists" exhibit will be on display at the Greene County Museum from May 6 through June 27. The exhibit is provided in part by the Grassroots grant of the North Carolina Arts Council. The Greene County Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call the Museum at (252) 747-1999.
