Tyler Griffin of Dover will be performing in Lenoir Community College's 10th annual Broadway and Beyond: Melody Magic in Song and Dance at 7:30 p.m. April 18 in the Waller Auditorium as part of the college’s 50th anniversary celebration. Tickets are $5.
The show is produced and directed by LCC Music faculty Carolyn Crossland and Crossland and Reid Taylor will co-host the event.
Griffin will be performing "That's What's Going To Happen" from I Love You Because by Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham and "Corner Of The Sky" from Pippin by Stephen Schwartz. He is also the lighting director for Broadway and Beyond 2008.
A graduate of South Lenoir High School, Griffin is a student at East Carolina University working towards Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Musical Theatre and Theatre Art Education. He has served as the musical director/actor in original musical at ECU called "All Aboard America" written by Patricia Clark with Off-Broadway director of Katmandu.
A freelance pianist and performer, he is the musicald Director for both "The Jungle Book" and "Willy Wonka and The Choclate Factory" productions at ECU and is currently writing a musical with writing partner Johnathan Coarsey, who is majoring in Professional Acting. He is part of a touring company called Storybook Theatre that travels all over North Carolina to public school to promote theatre and music. He was received numerous awards for directing and acting and is an accomplished musician in piano and alto saxophone. He has trained in acting with Michael Tahaney, Tracy Donohue, Patch Clark, and Myron Carter. He has trained in musical theatre with Tahaney and in music direction with Mona Knowles.
Griffin has trained in vocals with Lisa Grant, Rhonda Riley and Knowles and with Tommi Galaska in advanced dance training.
