Lenoir Community College presents the 10th annual Broadway and Beyond: Melody and Magic in Song and Dance at 7:30 p.m. April 18 in the Waller Auditorium as part of the college’s 50th anniversary celebration. Tickets are $5.

The show is produced and directed by LCC Music faculty Carolyn Crossland and Crossland and Reid Taylor will co-host the event.

Crossland graduated Cum Laude with an Associate in Arts in Piano Performance from Anderson College, Magna Cum Laude in Organ Performance from Campbell University, and earned her masters of music from East Carolina University in Conducting and Performance. She has completed additional post graduate studies at Royal School of Music in London, England, Italian Organ Academy, Haydn Conservatory in Austria, Illinois State University, Duke University, Westminster Choir College, Stetson University, and Pennsylvania State University. She is a Certified Leadership and Management Skills Instructor. She is also the choirmaster, organist and handbell director at Westminster United Methodist Church in Kinston. She has received numerous honors and awards.

Taylor is the LCC Occupational Extension Coordinator for Safety Programs. He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and has been the executive director of the Miss Neuse Scholarship Program for the past 29 years. He is former program chairman for the Greene County Young Woman of the Year/Junior Miss program. He has also been involved with all aspects of local and state Miss America Preliminaries. Involved in many civic organizations, most notable Rotary and Jaycees, he is a member of Gordon Street Christian Church in Kinston and has three daughters, Paige, Gretchen and Heather.

Ernest Silver of Greenville will be performing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz.

Silver has heard God’s call echoing in his heart and soul for years and has answered resoundingly with his first CD recording, "My Calling." Released late April 2002, the CD is a blend of contemporary and spiritual classics. One song written by Silver aptly titled, "There’s A Calling", explains in lyrical detail why he feels he must fulfill his destiny.
"Every song on this recording is a reflection of my heart, desiring to beat rhythmically with the heart of God. This calling-my mission-burns within my very being, beckoning me to share the good news of the gospel with total abandonment," Silver said.

Ernest Silver Music, Inc. was established in 2002 as part of Silver’s desire to broaden his ministry work. He has toured internationally as a member of his college choir at North Carolina Central University in Durham, and has done numerous concerts throughout the U.S.

"I began singing at the age of 5 as a soloist in my mother’s senior choir at Plumbline Holy Church in Enfield, North Carolina. My father played guitar in church, so I grew up being surrounded by the strands of holy, Christian music. It is as much a part of my life as my very being." Living and working in Greenville for the past seven years has allowed Silver the opportunity to expand his music, serving as one of the worship leaders at Covenant United Methodist Church. "My debut CD tells a chronological story of my walk in a Christian life. It is a reflection of who I am in my relationship with Jesus Christ," he said.

"My wife Charlene, and my children Ryan, Sean, Carlee and Abby Victoria have supported my calling to the utmost. They strengthen me with their love and encouragement."

Silver is currently in concert throughout various cities in the southeastern region United States.

Johnson began singing solos in church at the age of 10 and has sung countless songs since then. She has performed in LCC's annual performance of "Messiah" and has appeared before in Broadway and Beyond. She has performed in churches, summer stock, community theatre, and colleges across West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina. She is a graduate of Radford University in Dramatic Arts and Speech.

Johnson has been employed for 16 years as a Certified Social Worker at Lenoir Memorial Hospital and she directs the sanctuary choir at Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Bob and children/grandchildren: April, Paul, Katie, Anna Caroline, Carol K, Doug, Bodie, Luke, & Robbie.

She will be singing “Memory” from Cats.

Those participating in this year’s show include Kinston Dance Academy performing “One” from the Broadway hit A Chorus Line under the director of Jan McKenrick, Suzanne Gallaher performing “Don Juan” from Smokey Joe’s Café, Tyler Griffin singing “Corner of the Sky” from Pippin, and Shana Hammett singing “How Could I Ever Know” from The Secret Garden.
