LCC Instructors Receive Recognition

Three Lenoir Community College Industrial Programs instructors recently received recognition in their respective fields.

LCC Welding Program Head Chris Taylor has recently completed AWS (American Welding Society) certification. He joined the college faculty in 2006 and currently holds an AWS certified Welder, and is AWS certified in MIG, TIG, and Stick Welding procedures. The Welding Program is also an Educational Institution Member of the AWS and is actively participating in preparing students to become entry level and advanced level AWS certified welders. Taylor has more than 22 years of experience in welding.

LCC Machining Technology Program Head Paul Hill recently attended the First Annual Haas Technical Educational Center (HTEC) Conference at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Peter Zierhut, Director of Public Relations for Haas Automation announced LCC as becoming a Haas Technical Educational Center (HTEC). The presentation was made at the world famous Orange County Chopper machine shop during the conference. Hill was also elected to the HTEC Executive Committee as a representative for the two year HTEC schools nationwide. Additionally, LCC’s Advanced Machining Center was recognized as one of the most sophisticated CNC machining training centers in North Carolina. The conference was attended by more than 135 HTEC members representing high schools, two year schools, and four year schools.

LCC Cosmetology Program Head Tonya Adams recently received her North Carolina Cosmetology Board Teaching Certification. She joined the LCC family in March of 2007 as the program head of the LCC Cosmetology Program. A former student, Adams was a 1993 graduate of the LCC Cosmetology program and a 2004 graduate of LCC’s Occupational Education Degree program. She has more than 14 years of experience and has owned and operated her own salon for the last four years in the Kinston community.

LCC Director of Industrial and Public Service Programs Walter Martin said the college was fortunate to have these instructors as part of the LCC family.

"We are proud of their accomplishments. Tonya brings a wealth of knowledge with her to help prepare our students for a successful career in the cosmetology profession. Chris is very dedicated to his students and the success of the Welding Program and Paul and his staff are very dedicated to their students both at the college and in the surrounding High School Machining Programs in Jones, Greene and Lenoir County."
