Lenoir Community College graduate Vickie Maslin knew exactly what she wanted to do after graduation. She opened her own business - Maslin’s Therapeutic Massage, a successful business since 1999 when she graduated from the Therapeutic Massage Program at LCC.
Two years later, Bruce Maslin followed in her footsteps and earned his massage license and joined the company making it a husband and wife team.
The LCC Therapeutic Massage classes were offered in the evenings and on weekends for the convenience of those students who had daytime jobs. The Maslins are North Carolina Massage Board Licensed and Nationally Certified to perform therapeutic massages. They have maintained their licenses by taking Continuing Education Classes as required under state law and national certification requirements. This has added to their skills and massage techniques by learning new types of massage to aid their client’s in relieving their stresses and other tensions.
LCC Therapeutic Massage Program Head Gay Cox said that Vickie is a member of the Massage Class Advisory Board and attends the annual meetings at the college. Bruce serves as a substitute massage instructor as need arises.
"We are appreciative that LCC has such a program so close to home so as to get their education at a local convenient location, with night and weekend classes," the Maslins said.
As a husband and wife team they have established a great base of clientele ranging from homemakers to all types of professionals. Their training allows them to bring relief to the customers as well as having a profitable part time job that has allowed them to travel the world and has allowed them to enjoy the fruits of their labors.
