Lenoir Community College students Oscar Gutierrez of Pink Hill and Anthony Moore of Kinston has been named LCC's Students of the Month for March.
The students are recognized by the Lenoir-Greene United Way also for their achievements. Gutierrez is a Computer Programming major at LCC and plans to transfer to East Carolina University in the fall to study Computer Science. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and has been named to the LCC Dean's List and the President's List. While attending college, he is a work study student in the LCC Foundation office. Moore is enrolled in the Biochemistry program at LCC. He plans to transfer to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill or UNC in Wilmington. He began this academic year as a senator in the Student Government Association, and later assumed the role as the SGA treasurer. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Science Club. He has been named to the Deans' List and the President's List with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5. He is a combat war veteran who served in the U.S. Army for three and a half years before his military service was cut short due to injuries he sustained in Iraq. His hobbies include studying and researching scientific theories, reading, playing sports, traveling, and trading stocks. To date, he has traveled to four different countries. His lifetime goals are to start a scholarship for single parent households and start a non-profit organization.
