Lenoir Community College Aviation Management and Career Pilot Technology Program Head David Masters recently attended and completed the University of Maryland, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Aerospace Engineering Program in Baltimore County, Maryland.
Through a partnership with LCC and the aviation program, South Lenoir High School will begin offering the PLTW Aerospace Engineering (AE) program in the spring semester for their qualifying students. In preparation for leading the PLTW AE program, Masters completed two weeks of rigorous curriculum training under the supervision of aerospace engineering professor, Dr. Anne Spence.
PLTW is a national non-profit organization established to help schools give students the knowledge they need to excel in high-tech fields. PLTW is centered on the idea of bringing pre-engineering curriculum and concepts to students through practical application while their opinions about careers and interests are still forming.
In addition to becoming a certified PLTW AE Instructor, Masters is a certified pilot, flight instructor, and has experience as an airline pilot. He has been with the college since November 2006 and prepares his LCC Aviation students for a variety of careers in the aviation industry.
