Lenoir Community College students Keisha Campbell and Deborah Davis have been selected as the Student of the Month for September and October respectively.
Students are nominated by faculty and staff and selected on community and school involvement as well as academics.
Campbell is a native of Manhattan, NY. She currently resides in Kinston and is a second year student at LCC. She is enrolled in the College Transfer curriculum and is currently serving as the LCC Student Government Association president. Before becoming president, she has served as a senator and as treasurer of the SGA.
She attended the NC Student Leadership Institute over the summer and participated in the Miss LCC 2006 pageant this past spring. She is active in all activities on campus, including the musical productions.
She is a member of Deeper Life Church Ministries in Goldsboro and also is involved with the Fountain of Life Outreach program in the Lenoir County community. Her hobbies include drawing, dancing, and writing. Her long term goal is to have a professional dance career. After graduation in May 2007, she is planning to transfer to East Carolina University or UNC - Charlotte to pursue further study towards her dance career.
She works part time with the Career Start program through the Lenoir County JobLink Career Center.
According to those who nominated Campbell, she is considered "very dedicated, dependable, loyal, honest and hard worker."
Deborah Davis is also a second year student at LCC and plans to graduate in May 2007 with a Medical Office Administration degree.
A single mother of an 11-year-old son, Austin, she attended college right after high school, but she said she wasn't really focused. After dropping out, getting married and entering the workforce, Davis enrolled at LCC after the business she was working for closed its doors.
She has been listed on the President's List twice and the Dean's List. She also volunteers for the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center in Greenville where she participates as a volunteer for a camp for cancer patients. A cancer survivor herself, she said she attended the camp as a patient the first three years and now serves as a counselor.
She is described by those who nominated her as "caring, responsible, dedicated and determined."
