Phi Beta Lambda Brings Home Top State Honors

Three Lenoir Community College Phi Beta Lambda, Mu Omega Chapter members took top honors at the PBL State Leadership conference and competition recently. The event featured more than 350 students, advisors and professional division members representing 38 college chapters.

First and second place winners will represent the state chapter at the National Leadership Conference in Nashville Tennessee, in June. All students can attend Nationals and compete in new business events not tested at the State level.

LCC PBL Advisor Walter Martin said the competition was tough and the students worked very hard this year in preparing for their events.

Jewel Owens, editor of the college newspaper, The Javelin, received first place in Desktop Publishing. She serves as the chapter secretary and will graduate with a Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology degree in May.

Tom Foyles received fourth place in Economics and was part of the first place Desktop Publishing and second place Multimedia teams. He serves as the chapter vice president.

Carlos Dodd received second place in Multimedia Presentations. He serves as the chapter president and will graduate in May.
