Lenoir Community College Cisco students recently attended a campus tour of Cisco Systems at Research Triangle Park in Cary, North Carolina. During the tour they were able to obtain the latest updates on the newest Cisco technology. Those attending with LCC Cisco instructor Gail Edwards were Jim Jones, Danny Newborn, La Verne Atkinson-King, Kenneth Murrell, Mark Davis and David Douglas. The students were exposed to the responsibilities of networking technician and engineering design teams in configuring error free networks for major companies as well as government agencies. By using the latest Cisco switches, cabling, and personal computers, networking personnel from companies are able to see how the Cisco Systems design would work for their company on any given day. In the Cisco design lab engineers could actually simulate distance and traffic on the company’s network, up to 25 km away. Cisco Systems representatives were on hand to advise the students on how to enter the ever-changing networking field through education, internships and networking certifications. The employees of Cisco Systems expressed great satisfaction with their own working environment where there are many opportunities for advancement. In addition, this company offers many activities for their employees ranging from basketball, biking, and community involvement. In addition to being informative, the tour of Cisco Systems inspired students to strive even harder to do well in their Cisco studies. For more
