Auditions for the musical PURLIE! will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Waller Auditorium on the Lenoir Community College campus.

A strong African- American cast is need for this Southern gospel-based play. Director Mitch Butts will cast seven lead roles as well as about 20-30 roles for a singing chorus cast.

The lead roles are (1) Purlie Victorius, a loud, proud, preacher who is intent on winning the church and the land back from Ol' Cap'n.; (2) Lutibelle Gussimae Jenkins, a naive, love-struck young woman who follws Purlie; (3&4) Gitlow and Missy Judson, a hard-working, church-going couple who play by the rules; (5) Idella, an older woman who works for Ol' Cap'n; (6) Charlie, a young , white, hippy-type man who is intent on equal rights for everyone arounf him, and (7) Ol' Cap'n, a jolly but racist bigot who loves money.
The chorus will be made of African-Americans who will represent the members of Big Bethel, the local church.

Rehearsal for the chorus will be once a week for four weeks, the twice a week for four weeks, and finally a week long rehearsal schedule before the show opens. The leads will rehearse typically four nights a week.
