LCC offers Liberal Arts - Online

The Lenoir Community College Arts and Sciences Division offers a number of distance education classes to allow students to complete the Associate in Arts degree from their off-campus site.

These courses are designed to meet the needs of a diverse population through flexible, alternative delivery methods such as telecourses, teleweb courses, and Internet based courses, according to LCC Arts and Sciences Dean Mickie Braswell. "The academic standards, criteria, content, and quality are comparable to other traditional college classes," she said.

Students must follow the recommended course of study. Braswell said that all classes are not taught every semester, so distance students must work closely with their advisors. Courses are to be selected from the following list of general education distance classes:

Composition (6 SHC): ENG 111, 112, 113, 114

Humanities/Fine Arts (12 SHC): ART 111, SPA 111, SPA 112, ENG 231, ENG 232, MUS 110
One course must be an ENG course
COM 231 can substitute for a Humanities course, but not for an ENG course

Social/Behavioral Sciences: (12 SHC): GEO 111, HIS 121, 122, 131, 132, POL 110, SOC 210, PSY 150, PSY 281
One course must be a HIS course

Natural Sciences (8 SHC): BIO 111, BIO 112

Mathematics (6 SHC): MAT 161, 162, CIS 110

Other Required Courses (21 SHC)
ACA 111 or 115 (1-2 SHC)
HEA 120 (3 SHC)
Physical Education (2 SH): PED 128, PED139
Electives (15 SHC) Courses must be selected from the list of College Transfer courses.
