LCC Instructor Receives Award

Lenoir Community College Director of Industry and Public Service and Head of Automotive Systems Technology, and Occupational Education programs Gary L. Clements was recognized by the North Carolina AYES Partnership as the 2005 Community College Automotive Instructor of the Year at the North Carolina Auto Diesel Instructors Conference held recently at Wake Technical Community College.

He received a framed certificate and a cash award from Carol Walker, a representative of the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association.

Clements was recognized for his efforts in promoting automotive careers and his efforts in assisting high school and community college programs around the state in completing ASE/NATEF certification of their automotive programs.

“ I was totally in shock to receive this award,” Clements said. “I was speechless which is unusual for me. There are many community college automotive instructors in the state of North Carolina that are just as deserving of this award as I am. I don’t think I did anything special to get this award. I was just doing what I consider my normal duties on the job. I have a great job at Lenoir Community College. My extended family at Lenoir consists of great people to work with. I have a job that allows me to share a part of myself with my students and mold the lives of future generations”.

A life long resident of Lenoir County, he and wife of 29 years, Annette, have a four-year old son, Garrett.
Clements is a 1974 graduate of Kinston High School. He joined LCC in the mid 1980’s as a part-time evening instructor. He assumed the duties of Automotive Program Head in March of 1996.

Clements completed his associate in applied science degree from LCC in Occupational Education. He is currently enrolled at Mount Olive College in New Bern working on his bachelor of science degree in Management and Organizational Development. He plans to attend East Carolina University to receive a masters in Business Administration upon completion of his Mount Olive College degree.
