LCC Spotlights January Students of the Month

Lenoir Community College students of the month for January are Renee M. Swinson and Ashley Smith, both of Kinston.

Swinson is currently enrolled in the Human Services Technology program at LCC. She is a member of the National Deans List, Alpha Delta Omega National Honor Society, Human Services Club and Psychology Club. She has received awards for Prison Ministries, Outreach Ministries, Drug Ministries, and Women Fellowship. She received the LCC Minority Award, Outstanding Club Member Award and was Homecoming Queen 2002-2003. She is involved in Prison Ministries, Outreach Ministries, Cherry Hospital, Drug and Women Fellowship Ministries, Homeless Shelter, and Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence campaigns.

"Renee is an outstanding student and serves as a role model for others," said Human Services Program Head Robert Van Meir.

Smith is currently enrolled in the Transfer Program at LCC and holds a 4.0 grade point average. She has played LCC Volleyball for the past two years and currently is an LCC cheerleader. She serves as the 2003-2004 Student Government Association secretary and was an SGA Senator and president of the Transfer Club in 2002-2003. A member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Fraternity, she is a member of the Science Club.

"Ashley is a leader inside and outside the classroom," SGA advisor Sue Smith said. "She is an excellent student."
