LCC Automotive
Program Selected As Pilot Site
The Lenoir
Community College Automotive Technology program has been selected as a
pilot site for a new online training program based on automotive technology.
Sixty schools in four states are involved in the pilot program. More than
1,300 students are enrolled in more than 3,000 course units.
The program enables students to access the materials at school, the library,
computer lab or at home. The material is designed to be interactive so
that, for example, students use a computer mouse to drag and drop simulated
electrical leads on a circuit, calibrate a meter and measure voltage,
resistance or current.
The material is located at www.todaysclass.com
and is designed as a tool for the instructor, much like a textbook or
lab manual. The instructor accesses the activity through a Learning Management
System that enables the instructor to enroll students, monitor their progress
through a course module and access quiz and test scores.
The instructor can also send messages to one or more students using the
system. In turn, the student can send a message to the instructor requesting
assistance or simply asking for clarification. Embedded lab sheets enable
the student to print out a job sheet, take it to the instructor and arrange
to complete the required hands-on experience in the laboratory. The lab
sheets are based on the University of Missouri Instructional Materials
Laboratry automotive curriculum.
