The Lenoir Community College’s Automotive Systems Technology program presented an automotive update class for high school and community college automotive instructors recently. This is the second year LCC has offered this service. The class was co-sponsored by a grant from the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association.

LCC was one of five sites performing the update class a crossed the state that participated in the grant. Program Head Gary Clements was the instructor for the course. This update class is part of the continuing education requirements for ASE/NATEF certified programs. Instructors are required to attend twenty hours of update training per year to meet the ASE/NATEF requirement.

“I am very pleased with the number of participants this year," Clements said. "When we started this class last year we had nine instructors. This year we had 28.” Clements said the dedicated instructors also discussed forming an association to represent all automotive instructors in eastern North Carolina.
