LCC Welding and Machining Programs Have New Leadership

The Lenoir Community College Welding and Machining Technology programs are under new leadership. John Cavenaugh and David Paul Hill II have recently joined the instructional staff in the industrial program area.

Cavenaugh is program head of the Welding Technology. A former Navy Diver and 10-year Navy veteran, he is an AWS Certified Welding Inspector and Certified Welding Educator with a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Education from Southern Illinois University.


He is currently establishing membership and affiliation with the American Welding Society's S.E.N.S.E. (Schools Excelling through National Skills Standards Education) program, providing LCC students the opportunity to be recognized through the AWS as Certified Welders.


Prior to coming to LCC, he was an instructor in the Industrial Maintenance Technology Department at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, MS.
Married to Valerie, they have a son, Josh, a senior in high school.




Hill is leading the Machining Program as its program head. He has extensive CNC experience and will be expanding LCC's offering of CNC courses.


He is an honor graduate of Pitt Community College receiving his Associate in Applied Science degree in Machining Technology. He is part owner in DP Hill Manufacturing in Richlands, a product development company which provides product development services and manufacturing to entrepreneurs to help get their ideas in the market place and produces prototype parts. The company also produce small quantities of production CNC machined parts.


Prior to coming to LCC, he was a part time instructor at Pitt Community College and was employed at Precision Hydraulic Cylinders as a supervisor of its powder coat line and CNC operator.


Hill teaches children's church at Union Baptists Church in Seven Springs.
He is the son of David Paul and Juliann Hill of Richlands. Married to Terry Sue Hill, and they have two children, Victoria Paige Hill and Zachary Jay LeMaster.
