LCC's Human Services Club and Alpha Delta Omega help victims of the West Pharmaceutical Fire

Lenoir Community College's Alpha Delta Omega and Human Services Club joined together to sponsor a campus fund raising drive to help those who were involved in the explosion at West Pharmaceutical recently. The clubs collected almost $500 in five days. Members of the clubs said their motto of "Making a difference in our Community" was never more appropriate than in a time like this.

The idea to raise funds for the students and families that were directly effect by the fire began as an idea the Thursday morning following the fire. Candy Griffin, president of Alpha Delta Omega, met with the club's faculty advisor to discuss the actions the two clubs could take to respond to this horrific event.

Robert E. Van Meir, head of Human Services program at LCC, said the West Company fund was established. Approximately 25 containers were distributed in various classrooms. The Waller Building atrium became a distribution and production site as members and volunteers furiously turned out signs and posters to promote the fund.

Laquita Richardson, the president of the Human Services Club, reported that this is what being in human services is all about helping others. "That is a great amount considering the state of the economy these students continue to give and give this college is fortunate to attract very caring and dedicated individuals into the human services program," said Van Meir.
