LCC Graphics Students Win Awards

Four Lenoir Community College Graphic Arts & Imaging Technology students recently won several PICA Awards including two First-Place Best of Category awards. PICA, the Printing Industry of the Carolinas, Inc., and its PrintForce project, recently held a printing competition for high school and college graphic arts students. The event, the fourth annual Twin Oaks Student Achievement Awards, offered recognition in various categories. Several LCC graphics students submitted entries and the results were announced in January.


The award winners from LCC are:

  • Melinda Aycock of Pollocksville, Best of Category (1st place): Offset Printing: 4-color process-flat stock, Special Judges Award (2nd place): Screen Printing: 2 or more spot colors-textile;
  • Shannon Collins of Cove City, Special Judges Award (2nd place): Offset Printing: Duotones-flat stock, Special Judges Award (2nd place): Offset Printing: 4-color process-flat stock, Special Judges Award (2nd place): Screen Printing: 2 or more spot colors-textile, Special Judges Award (2nd place): Screen Printing: 2 or more spot colors-flat;
  • Margarita Vega Pink Hill, Best of Category (1st place): Offset Printing: Duotones-flat stock;
  • and Brian Vincent of Greenville, Special Judges Award (2nd place): Offset Printing: 4-color process-flat stock Award of Excellence (3rd place): Offset Printing: Duotones-flat stock.

LCC students competed against other two-year and four-year college students from North and South Carolina including Appalachian State University, Clemson University, and Chowan College. There were 141 entries in the collegiate division. LCC students won a total of nine different awards in various categories including two First-Place Best-of-Category Awards. The department is planning an awards ceremony to honor these four students and to present them with their PICA Awards.
