LCC's Alpha Delta Omega planning Operation: Support Our Troops

Alpha Delta Omega (ADO), the National Honor Society of Human Services at Lenoir Community College is spearheading a community drive to help with donations for American troops now serving in the Middle East. Many soldiers are in need of basic items to help them cope with their present situation.

The items that are needed are: lip balm, unscented baby wipes, athlete's foot power/spray, sun screen, Kool-aid, crystal-light, etc., Chex Mix, pens, paper, puzzle books, and personal hygiene items for men and women.

Members of the Lenoir Community College Chapter of Alpha Delta Omega, Human Services honor organization, are organizing drop off points for items to be sent to American troops fighting in Iraq. The campaign kicks off Monday, April 7 and will last until April 18. LCC will serve as the drop-off point for individuals, families, and churches to drop off items to be sent over to American troops. The boxes will be available in the following buildings: Waller Building, Administration Building, Learning Resource Center (Heritage Place), Student Union, Bullock Building, and Health Sciences Building. The Lenoir County Chapter of the American Red Cross will handle the distribution of the items for our troops.

The idea for this project came from ADO officers Candy Griffin, president, and Joyce Ellison, vice president speaking with a faculty member who's son is now serving in Kuwait. "It is a wonderful idea and getting the college and community to get behind this operation can help bring all of us closer together," said ADO advisor and Human Services Technology Program Head Rob Van Meir.

The College will also have a Support Our Troops day/night at the April 12 home LCC Baseball game and at the Kinston Indians home game on April 17.
