LCC Human Services Club Helps the Homeless Shelter

The Human Services Club of Lenoir Community College lent a helping hand to The Friends of the Homeless Emergency Shelter for the third year in a row. The club has been partnering up with the homeless shelter since the club began in 2000.

The homeless shelter is a nonprofit organization that has 44 beds for men and women. It has a family room and provides on-site literacy program. LCC's drug and alcohol program and the Employment Security Commission work with the shelter's staff to help its clients obtain employment.

Jasper Newborn, the shelter's director, thanked the club for its continued support and comment on the clubs ability to know just when to give a helping hand.

Robert E. Van Meir, head of the Human Services Program, said that this has been the most active Human Services Club at the college yet and their ability to give and donate their time, energy, and money to others is a strong hallmark of their character and dedication to the Human Services field. Van Meir said the Human Services program is one of the fastest growing majors at LCC and its club continues to believe in their motto "Making a Difference in the Community".
