“Cinderella: A Tale Retold,” to be performed by the LCC PlayMakers March 27 - March 29 at 8:00 p.m., and March 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waller Auditorium.
The book and lyrics were written by LCC’s own faculty member Mitch Butts. All the music is original and has been composed by Clay Whittington.
The story unfolds inside a great pumpkin and Butts promises this is not your typical Cinderella story. "It has taken me some time to get this story to where it was ready for the stage," he said. "Clay has done an outstanding job in composing the music to the lyrics I wrote. The songs cover all types of music."
Butts heads up the LCC Playmakers which is a group consisting of faculty, staff, students, and citizens who enjoy participating in performing arts. He has a long list of performing arts and director credits to his name and years of experience in the performing arts.
Butts is very excited about seeing the world premier of his play come to life on stage. “The music is incredible and the story offers a different twist than the traditional Disney version.”
Whittington is also enthusiastic to work on this project as well. “I love what I do,” Whittington said. "This has been exciting to work on." Whittington has experience in theater. His musical background includes 13 years of piano and eight years of guitar lessons.
Whittington said he is a perfectionist when it comes to his work. “I’m very nervous to see how the audience will react,” he said. “It is a type of adrenalin rush."
