This on-line orientation should be viewed by all prospective students and repeat students. No matter which course you enroll in, this information will be helpful and will help you be successful in your Internet Based Courses. If you are not going to be attending the on-campus orientation, please follow the procedures outlined below.

Do I have to come to campus for anything?
Most courses require that you come to campus for the orientation session. Sometimes circumstances prevent that. You are NOT required to come to campus unless the instructor mandates a campus visit for testing, counseling, or any other necessary meeting. A major percentage of the course is conducted via the Internet.

How do I get books and other resources?
Provisions for books, materials etc. will be made prior to the first class meeting. For a more detailed listing of what services Lenoir Community College provides to distance education students, please refer to the Distance Education Student Guide.

How do I gain access to the on-line course?
(Instructor email addresses can be found by going to the Distance Education, schedule page for the current semester and clicking on the course that you are enrolling in. The instructor's name will be on the course schedule page with a link to their email address. You may click on the instructor link to send email if your computer is configured to do so (Note: frequently public access computers may not be configured properly to send email from Internet links) or copy the email address carefully and enter it as the address in the program you use to send email).

Once you have signed up and registered for your course, e-mail your instructor the following information:

- Your full name and the name you will go by for the class
- Your Student ID number (to assure that you are registered)
- Your primary e-mail address & any other e-mail address your instructor can reach you
- Your phone number and the best time to reach you by phone
- Your curriculum (if applicable)
- Kind of computer (web browser, e-mail software, word processing) you'll use for class
- The name of your Internet service provider (ICOM, Earthlink, LCC, SuddenLink)

You will then be given the username and password for the course. Students MUST be registered for the course in order to have access to the course and the course components. Access to the discussion forum, etc. will be given once the course begins. Each student that is required to use the discussion forum will be given a password.

On the first day of class you should:
- Go to the Distance Education home page
-
Click on the schedule for the current semester
-
Click on the course that you have enrolled in
-
Examine the course syllabus
- Examine the course schedule & assignments page - Examine first course session page
