Motorcycle Safety Program

Lenoir Community College is pleased to offer a variety of motorcycle safety courses. Whether you’ve never ridden a motorcycle or just need a refresher, LCC has a course designed for you!

   BASIC RiderCourse (BRC)
  • No prior motorcycle experience is needed for the BASIC RiderCourse.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must accompany the rider on the first night of class and sign a waiver for the rider to operate a motorcycle.
  • A driver’s license or learners permit is not required to take the course.
  • Long sleeve shirt or jacket.
  • Long pants.
  • Sturdy over the ankle boots or shoes.
  • Full-fingered gloves.
  • Protective eye wear (glasses or face shield).
  • Motorcycles, helmets, and training manuals are provided for each student.
  • Dress for inclement weather. As a general rule, instruction will only be cancelled in the event of campus-wide inclement weather.
  • Students must be able to ride and balance a bicycle prior to taking this course. Those with health concerns and limited mobility should consult a physician prior to registering for this course due to the demanding physical activity required.
  • Students unable to safely perform the riding activities required of the course may, at the discretion of the RiderCoaches, be asked to withdraw from the course. Students are free to withdraw from the course at any time they feel uncomfortable to ride during the course. In either case, registration fees are nonrefundable.

   3-WHEEL RiderCourse (3WBRC)
  • No prior motorcycle experience is needed for the 3-Wheel Basic RiderCourse.
  • A driver’s license or learners permit is not required to take the course.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must accompany the rider on the first night of class and sign a waiver for the rider to operate a motorcycle.
  • Long sleeve shirt or jacket.

  • 3 wheel motorcycles are available, but limited and MUST be reserved.
  • Dress for inclement weather. As a general rule, instruction will only be cancelled in the event of campus-wide inclement weather.

   Basic RiderCourse 2 (BRC2)
  • Six months or 3,000 miles experience required.
  • Must possess a valid motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement. A motorcycle learner’s permit is also acceptable.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must accompany the rider on the first night of class and sign a waiver for the rider to operate a motorcycle.
  • Must provide a street legal, properly licensed motorcycle.
  • Must provide proof of insurance.
  • Must pass a visual safety inspection on the morning of the class.
  • Dress for inclement weather. As a general rule, instruction will only be cancelled in the event of campus-wide inclement weather.

   ADVANCED RiderCourse (ARC)
  • 6 months or 3,000 miles
  • Must possess a valid motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older. Students under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must accompany the rider on the first night of class and sign a waiver for the rider to operate a motorcycle.
  • Must provide a street legal, properly licensed motorcycle.
  • Must provide proof of insurance.
  • Must pass a visual safety inspection on the morning of the class.

   BASIC RiderCourse (BRC)
  • Upon successful completion of the BASIC RiderCourse (BRC), students will be issued a skills waiver card for the NCDMV which will exempt the student from the motorcycle riding test. Students will still be required to take the written exam before being issued a motorcycle endorsement.

   3-WHEEL RiderCourse (3WBRC)
  • Upon successful completion of the 3-Wheel Basic RiderCourse (3WBRC), students will be issued a skills waiver card for the NCDMV which will exempt the student from the motorcycle riding test. Students will still be required to take the written exam before being issued a motorcycle endorsement.

   Basic RiderCourse 2 (BRC2)
  • There is no skills test in this course.

   ADVANCED RiderCourse (ARC)
  • There is no skills test in this course.
