ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Curriculum Description
The Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology curriculum is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the printing, publishing, packaging, and related industries.

Students will receive hands-on training in computer publishing, imaging technology, offset lithography, screen printing, and emerging printing technologies. Training may also include flexography, graphic design, and multimedia.

Graduates should qualify for career opportunities within the printing and publishing industries.

Program Highlights
Students attending LCC receive hands-on training in all phases of graphic arts including:

  • graphic design and layout
  • computer publishing
  • photo manipulation and image editing
  • conventional and electronic prepress
  • offset and digital printing
  • bindery and finishing
  • screen printing
  • web graphics and web site development
Job Placement
The program has had a near-perfect job placement rate for graduates for over the past ten years. Students have found employment in numerous areas of the industry. LCC graduates are employed across the state as computer graphics specialists, desktop publishers, electronic prepress technicians, sheetfed and web press operators, bindery technicians, screen printers, and graphic arts instructors. Many have gone on to open their own businesses. Others have transferred to four-year colleges to further their education.

Students seeking an associate degree would also take general education and other related courses.
 
   

In addition to the courses offered at the Kinston campus, Lenoir Community College has established a cooperative agreement with Greene Central High School in Snow Hill. With funding from the Huskins Bill, high school students may enroll in several freshman-level GAIT courses offered throughout the year. Courses are offerred at the Greene Central High School.
