| GROWING AMERICA THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP (GATE) |

The GATE initiative is a partnership between the North Carolina Community College System, the North Carolina Commission on Workforce Development, the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, and N.C. REAL Enterprises, Inc. The purpose of the program is to help dislocated workers in distressed North Carolina counties to develop an alternative career path through self-employment.
Funding for the program is provided through the US Department of Labor. The program provides free services for approved applicants, including assessment of entrepreneurial skills, entrepreneurship training and counseling, access to the state's active networks of small business information services, eligibility for a work-search waiver for clients receiving unemployment benefits, and opportunities for business financing for qualified clients who start their own businesses.
Lenoir Community College is the only GATE site east of Interstate Highway I-95, with a service area covering Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties. |
