The
Practical Nursing Curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and
skills to provide nursing care to children and adults.
Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating
nursing care.
Graduates
are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination
(NCLEX-PN) which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home
health facilities, clinics, and physicians offices. |

LPN to ADN Transition |

The ADN Transition program is designed for the current unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to
complete the ADN program.
Applicants must meet the algebra and chemistry requirements for Associate Degree Nursing. The
chemistry requirement in excess of five years may be waived if BIO 168 and 169 or the equivalent have
been completed. Applicants must have completed the following related courses with a “C” or better:
PSY 150, BIO 168, and BIO 169.
A co‐requisite of NUR 214 must be PSY 241 and ENG 111 if the course has not been previously taken.
COM 231, ENG 112, BIO 275, AND HUM/FINE ARTS elective must be taken with respective NUR courses
as noted in the catalog if not previously taken. In addition, a satisfactory score must be obtained on a
math‐pharmacology competency exam. The ADN faculty will administer this exam to the qualified
applicants in late fall semester. Pharmacology outlines for independent review will be available from
the Admissions Office or Health Sciences Division in the fall semester. For additional information,

ADN programs begins each summer.
SEPTEMBER‐OCTOBER:
Apply to the LPN to ADN Transition. (See Admissions Office Counselors)
NOVEMBER:
Take math‐pharmacology exam. (Call 252‐527‐6223, ext. 800 for testing date and appointment)
DECEMBER OR JANUARY:
Provisional acceptance letters mailed to applicants.
FEBRUARY:
NUR 214 begins. This is a 12‐week course. (Upon successful completion of NUR 214, LPNs may enter the
third semester of the ADN program.) |

LPN Refresher Course is generally offered each year in the Spring semester. |

NUR 107 LPN Refresher is designed for the LPN who needs to be updated in order to return to work,
who has not practiced in several years, or who has been mandated by the NCBON to take a "Refresher"
course. This course is offered once a year, depending on enrollment requests. There is limited seating.
NUR 107 is a 12 hour credit course, and it includes a clinical conponent. Health forms must be
completed and determined as satisfactory before clinical begins. Please call 252‐527‐6223, ext. 800 if
interested.
