Duke Energy Awards $193.628 to LCC
KINSTON, N.C. –  Duke Energy and Lenoir Community College (LCC) today announced a $193,628 investment from the Duke Energy Foundation. The funds will be used to purchase robotics equipment used in local industry, secure instructional supplies and provide instructor training to create a state-of-the-art robotics lab as part of LCC’s Advanced Robotics Manufacturing (ARM) initiative.

The purpose of the College’s ARM initiative is to energize the local workforce through robotics automation training for advanced manufacturing jobs in food processing and other local industries.

“We appreciate Duke Energy’s support of Lenoir Community College and we are excited about this initiative,” LCC President Dr. Brantley Briley said. “It will enhance the College’s abilities for customized industry training, allow us to incorporate robotics into an existing curriculum program, and work with local public school systems through STEM initiatives to promote interest in advanced robotic manufacturing jobs.”

“Our partnership with Lenoir Community College develops a highly-skilled workforce that will attract and retain businesses in the region for years to come,” said Paul Newton, Duke Energy’s state president – North Carolina.

This grant is part of Duke Energy’s $6.7 million investment in North Carolina’s Community Colleges’ focus on technical education and support of business and industry.  Since 2004, Duke Energy has awarded $15 million in grants to 24 community colleges within the Duke Energy Carolinas service area. This new $6.7 million investment also includes community colleges located in the Duke Energy Progress service area.

Individual community colleges can apply for funds through the Foundation for the Carolinas (Duke Energy Carolinas customers) or NC Community Foundation (Duke Energy Progress customers). Applications will be reviewed by a committee of representatives from Duke Energy, NC Community College System and NC Department of Commerce.
