Lenoir Community College SQUIRES SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
Squires Scholarship Awarded
The Rodney E. Squires, Jr. Automotive Mechanics Scholarship was awarded to Tanner Carnes of Kinston, a student enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program at Lenoir Community College.

The scholarship was established in honor of the late R.E. Squires, Sr. and Dorothy A. Squires and in memory of Rodney E. Squires, Jr. (Buster), a former co-owner and operator of Auto Generator and Starter in Kinston where he worked for almost 36 years. He loved what he did and was always eager and willing to stop and help others and to give back to his community.

Squires’ parents moved to Kinston from Greenville in 1955 to open the business. The family business is now owned and operated by Steve and France Squires. Born Oct. 10, 1949, Squires died Sept. 14, 2009.

The scholarship was established by Squires’ wife, Rose, through the LCC Foundation and will be awarded annually to a promising student who is committed to a career in automotive mechanics.
