Lenoir Community College SNOW HILL/LCC 28TH ANNUAL TENNIS CLASSIC 2010

LCC Annual Tennis Classic 2010

The Snow Hill/LCC 28th Annual Tennis Classic 2010 will be held at Greene Ridge Racquet and Swim Club on Aug. 27 through 29. An added bonus this year to the annual tennis tournament fundraiser is a golf tournament at Cutter Creek Golf Club on Aug. 26. All proceeds benefit scholarships in Greene County.

LCC Director of Institutional Advancement Jeanne Kennedy said with the opening of the new Cutter Creek Golf Club, the opportunity to hold a golf classic was too good to pass up. “We have had some interest in having a golf tournament in Snow Hill and this was the perfect opportunity to combine it with an already successful established event such as the tennis classic.”

The 2007 Snow Hill/ LCC Tennis Classic was hailed as adult tournament of the year for the southern region by the USTA and the North Carolina Tennis Association.  Conditions of the award include success of the event, longevity, and what’s given back to the community. The southern region for the USTA includes Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas. The tournament won the award for the first time in 2003.

Using the nine clay courts at Greene Ridge Racquet and Swim Club, the tournament continues to grow.  Bobby Taylor, owner of Greene Ridge Racquet and Swim Club, where the tournament was held, said attendance has increased every year.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to help the foundation,” Kennedy said. “It’s good to get our name out in a positive way.”  Last year there were 175 players. In the past, this tournament has raised more than $10,000 for the LCC scholarship program in Greene County.

A $30 entry fee, up to two events is required and should accompany the entry form or interested player can pay their fee online at nctennis.com. Tournament ID No. 703957810 is required when paying online.

Dinner will be served on the evening of Aug. 28 for all players. Guests may attend for a fee of $8. Fruits and snacks will be provided each morning. Prizes will be awarded to finalists in each division and t-shirts will be provided to all participants. Events will be men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

USTA rules and codes will govern all play. Matches will be the best three, tie break sets. The 15-minute default rule will be in effect. All players should report to the tournament desk 30 minutes before their first match. Tie breaks for third set may be used if draw dictates. Players will be limited to two events. An event may be cancelled if there are less than three entrants in that event.

The entry fee for the new Golf Classic is $75 per person or $300 for a team of four. A mulligan package of $25 can be purchased also. The package include a red tee, entry in the closest to the pin and putting contests, two raffle tickets, and two mulligans, one on each nine.
“Registration will be held the morning of Aug. 26 at 9:30 a.m. with tee time at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.,” Kennedy said.

Sponsorships for the tournament are also available.  They range from $150 to $1,000.

Kennedy hopes the tournament will be bigger and better this year with more sponsors, but the tournament wouldn’t be possible without the tournament committee and volunteers. “They are an integral part of the tournament,” she said. “We can’t do it without them.”
