The LCC Bookworms will not meet during the month of August but will meet again Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. in the Floyd Conference Room in the Waller Building. We have not selected a specific book for the month of September. However, the bookworms plan to discuss a work of nonfiction of the reader's choice. Each member will bring a book that they have wanted to read and book talk that book at the next meeting.
In other words, a person may select Laura Bush's new autobiography entitled Spoken from the Heart. Or someone may want to read Ted Kennedy's memoir True Compass. Or perhaps a true crime selection such as Too Late to Say Goodbye: A True Story of Love and Betrayal. Rather than read about one person, a participant may want to select a popular choice such as Outliers: The Story of Success or maybe War--about soldiers in Afghanistan. Or perhaps someone will be daring enough to read _$#*& My Dad Says--the current #1 nonfiction book by Justin Halpern.
I plan to read two books for the September meeting: My Stroke of Insight--a book about a brain scientist who has a stroke and lives to tell about her ordeal and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks--a story about a poor black woman whose cells were taken in the 1950s and are still being used today in medical research.
Once you have chosen a nonfiction selection and have read it, you'll just tell about the book during the book club meeting. This will be a great way for new folks to share something they've read recently and to get to know the current book club members. |
